Copenhagen City Hall

With Jens Olsens Verdensur

The Copenhagen City Hall was designed by Martin Nyrop, who was inspired by the Renaissance style of the Siena town hall in Italy.

Inaugurated in 1905, it includes Copenhagen’s tallest tower, at 105 metres.

If you feel like a workout, you can climb the 300 stairs to the top for a bird’s-eye view over the city.

The tower houses Jens Olsen’s world-renown astronomical clock, which displays not only the local time, but also solar time, sunrises and sunsets, the Gregorian calendar and more.

The mechanical clock, consisting of over 14,000 parts, must be wound weekly.

The town hall offers guided tours in Danish, English and German, which include a visit to Jens Olsen’s World Clock and the gardens of the town hall.
